Fairmont Arts Organizations Announce Collaborative Leadership Agreement
Fairmont, MN — The Boards of Directors of the Fairmont Opera House and the Martin County Preservation Association announce a formal leadership collaboration designed to strengthen both organizations and advance the arts in our community.
The Fairmont Opera House and the Martin County Preservation Association have entered into a collaborative agreement that allows for shared executive leadership. This agreement reflects the efficient use of talent and resources to maximize arts supporters’ investments and highlights the shared mission of both organizations in advancing arts and cultural preservation within the community.
Under this agreement, Blake Potthoff will continue serving as Executive Director of the Fairmont Opera House and will also serve as Acting Executive Director for the Red Rock Center for the Arts and the Chubb House, formally known as the Martin County Preservation Association.
Both boards recognize that collaboration strengthens the long-term sustainability of the arts in Fairmont. By aligning leadership during this transitional period, the organizations can build capacity, enhance communication, and identify opportunities for strategic partnership.
“This consolidation allows us to pool our resources, talent, and networks to better serve local artists and audiences alike.” — Carol Justice, Board Chair, Martin County Preservation Association
This agreement reflects a shared commitment to stewardship, thoughtful planning, and ensuring that both institutions continue to thrive for generations to come.
“There will be a lot of synergy between our organizations as we collaborate for the future.” — Bob Luedtke, Board Chair, Fairmont Opera House
The two organizations will continue to operate independently under their respective boards of directors. Programming, fundraising, and governance structures remain distinct. The collaborative agreement provides defined leadership support, clear expectations, and a framework for accountability to both boards.
The Fairmont Opera House Board of Directors also emphasized that this agreement will not impact the organization’s ongoing capital campaign to repair, restore, and reopen the historic Fairmont Opera House facility. The campaign remains a top priority for the organization, and dedicated leadership, volunteers, and campaign supporters will continue advancing that effort without interruption.
Through consistent communication and coordinated planning, both organizations will explore opportunities to improve operational efficiency, enhance community engagement, and align their missions while maintaining their individual identities and priorities.
Blake Potthoff will maintain his role as Executive Director of the Fairmont Opera House, where he has led strategic initiatives, expanded programming, and advanced major preservation efforts. In addition, in his acting capacity at Red Rock Center for the Arts, he will focus on supporting staff and volunteers, ensuring continuity of programming, and assisting the board with organizational planning and future leadership development.
“I’m honored by the trust both boards have placed in me,” said Potthoff. “The Fairmont Opera House and Martin County Preservation Association each bring something unique and essential to our community. This is an opportunity to strengthen collaboration, share resources where appropriate, and ensure that the arts continue to thrive in Fairmont.”
Both Boards of Directors express confidence in this collaborative model and remain committed to transparency, community partnership, and strong governance as this agreement moves forward. The Fairmont Opera House and Martin County Preservation Association remain committed to delivering high-quality arts experiences and expanding access to cultural opportunities for residents and visitors alike.
