Childrens Summer Theater Camps: Creativity and Fun For All!
July 2nd, 2025
by Kyler Wolters

This summer Fairmont Opera House hosted youth theater camps at Grace Lutheran Church and the Fairmont High School. Both camps were filled with creativity and fun!
K-2 Camp: “Chicka Chicka Boom Boom”
This year, our youngest actors from the community performed a beloved story book show of one of their favorite books “Chicka Chicka Boom Boom”. A learning experience that teaches the alphabet through rhyme’s and repitition! The kids got to decorate their own set and paint their own letters! The week long camp was filled with fun and sillyness as the kids got to act out their letters bumps and bruises after tumbling out of the coconut tree!
When asking Alyvia Anderson what made her want to direct the K-2 Summer Theater Camp she said, “I wanted to bring my love for theater to other kids, and directing was the first step!”
3-8 Camp: “Willy Wonka Jr.”
The 3rd-8th grade worked on bringing the fabulous tale of Willy Wonka’s Chocolate factory to life! From the golden ticket to the Oompa Loompas this show had it all! The kids had a wonderful time building the contraptions in the inventing room and rowing down the chocolate river! They rehearsed from 1-4PM for 2 weeks and were able to put together an awesome show!
Megan Pothoff reflects on these past 2 weeks saying her favorite part about childrens theater is “Getting to teach them the basics of theater through games and watching them fall in love with theater the way I have.”
Up Next!
Our Adult community theater will be performing “All Shook Up” July 24th-August 3rd! A rocking show that takes the hit songs of Elvis and brings them to life on stage! Make sure you get your tickets to this rocking performance!

Fairmont Area Community Theater presents: All Shook Up! It’s 1955, and into a square little town in a square little state rides a guitar-playing young man who changes everything and everyone he meets in this hip-swiveling, lip-curling musical fantasy that’ll have you jumpin’ out of your blue suede shoes with such classics as “Heartbreak Hotel,” “Jailhouse Rock,” and “Don’t Be Cruel.”
