Major Donors Spark Momentum for Fairmont Opera House Renovation Project
Transformational Gifts Propel Fairmont Opera House Capital Campaign Forward
Fairmont, Minnesota – July 25, 2026 – The Fairmont Opera House today announced two transformational gifts from the Rosen Family Foundation and The Bryan and Mary Beth Sweet Foundation to the Preserve the Legacy, Enrich the Future Capital Campaign. This provides a significant boost to the organization’s capital campaign and creates the momentum needed to advance the long-awaited restoration and repair of the Fairmont Opera House.
“As longtime patrons and supporters of the Fairmont Opera House, we are thrilled to be part of the Preserve the Legacy, Enrich the Future Capital Campaign”, stated Bryan Sweet. “These gifts allow the construction to begin — and we hope others will join us in bringing this historic treasure back to life for the next generation.”
These cornerstone donations mark a major turning point for the campaign, enabling the Fairmont Opera House to move forward with construction. Work is now set to begin on the historic repair and restoration project, including completing architectural drawings, preparing project estimates, and conducting the detailed planning required to bring the 125-year-old venue back to life for a new generation.
“This is a defining moment for the Fairmont Opera House,” said Robert Luedtke, Fairmont Opera House Board of Directors Chair. “The generosity of the Rosen Family Foundation and The Bryan and Mary Beth Sweet Foundation demonstrates tremendous confidence in our vision and in the future of this historic community treasure. Their support allows us to move from planning toward action.”
The Fairmont Opera House has been working to preserve and reimagine its historic facility while ensuring it remains a vibrant cultural and community gathering place for generations to come. The campaign supports improvements that will strengthen the building’s long-term sustainability, enhance the audience experience, and expand opportunities for arts and community programming.
While these landmark gifts provide the momentum needed to begin the next stage of the project, campaign leaders emphasized that the effort is not yet complete.
“We would not be at this milestone without the incredible support we’ve already received from our community,” said Executive Director Blake Potthoff. “Every donor who has contributed to this campaign has helped move the vision forward. Today’s announcement builds on that generosity, and we’re grateful for every person and organization that believes in the future of the Fairmont Opera House.”
“These gifts do not finish the campaign, but they do move us significantly forward,” said Board Chair Luedtke. “Because of these investments, we can complete the technical work required to prepare the project and begin construction. We remain committed to raising the additional funds needed to fully realize the vision.”
The Fairmont Opera House plans to continue fundraising throughout the summer and will launch a second phase of its capital campaign this fall, inviting individuals, businesses, foundations, and community partners to help bring the project across the finish line.
Campaign supporters believe the project will create lasting benefits for Fairmont and the surrounding region by preserving a historic landmark, attracting visitors, supporting local businesses, and expanding access to arts and cultural experiences.
“The Fairmont Opera House has served as the heart of countless community memories,” said Jane Reiman, Fairmont Opera House Board of Directors Treasurer. “Today’s announcement ensures we can begin building its next chapter.”
Additional details regarding the project’s scope, campaign progress, and upcoming fundraising opportunities will be shared in the coming months.
